Ryan Adams Debacle

Today has to be one of the unluckiest days for two of Ryan Adams’ biggest fans. Earlier this week, I received a franctic phone call from Antonella to inform me that Ryan Adams will be making a pit-stop in Toronto for his ‘club’ tour. Of course, being huge fans as we are, we made sure that all grounds would be covered when it came to purchasing tickets. So this afternoon, one of us was on standby at the computer/phone while the other went to Harbourfront Centre to buy tickets at the box office. For those who care, this is how the following afternoon unfolded:

12:45 - Jen preps her login info on the Harbourfront site. So far, so good.

12:50 - Gets a phone call from Antonella as she has just arrived on scene because the cabbie took the most inappropriate route, causing her to run 15 minutes behind schedule. “things don’t look good” she says. Approximately 15 people were standing between us and Ry. Not cool.’

1:01 - Jen and Matt have 8 windows open so that they can try to get tickets. They finally get through and get an error comment. WTF?

1:04 - Perhaps the error comment was because of heavy traffic…

1:05 - Jen receives another phone call from Antonella. “Some girl just walked by and said Row W. That’s so far back!” Panic ensues.

1:10 - Ok, it’s official the Harbourfront website is completely effed up. Sure you can click on the ‘buy tickets’ button but why have it up, when you only get a message that says ‘call the box office!’ We have no choice but to call (Note: three phones are going at this point)

1:15 - Lady with baby carriage is standing in front of Antonella. She wonders to herself “is she really looking to buy RA tickets, or is this some kind of a casual purchase?” She takes a look behind her only to notice a man with white hair, and then realizes that perhaps the mom isn’t so strange afterall.

The question is then answered once Antonella finally gets to the front of the line and hears the man behind the counter politely ask the lady if she could step aside for a moment to sell me and the others the few tickets that are left. She argues until the tickets are gone. As she steps up to the plate, the last ticket was sold (probably through the phoneline).

1:25 - After spending minutes listening to the busy tone, Jen gets a call from Anto confirming that the tickets are indeed sold-out. She refuses to believe and continues to call the box office.

1:35 - There’s no hope and there’s a slight ringing in Jen’s ear.

What started out as one of the most exciting days of ‘07 turned into a huge bummerfest.
