Samuel L. Jackson vs. Walk off the Earth – who covered Taylor better?

January 17th, 2013

No one likes covers of Taylor Swift more than Taylor Swift. The pop superstar tweeted a link to Walk off The Earth’s amazing cover of her single I Knew You Were Trouble on January 7th along with the message “I’ve had so many people send me this. SO unbelievably cool.” The Burlington, ON band are no strangers to covers, having skyrocketed to fame and scoring an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres show when their cover of Gotye’s Somebody That I Used to Know went viral, almost surpassing the original for number of YouTube views.

Walk Off The Earth has again struck gold with their cover of Swift’s latest song, but it looks like they’re about to get some stiff competition from Samuel L. Jackson. Not only can Jackson expertly lend his voice to children’s books like Go The F*** To Sleep, but he’s also an expert at putting his own spin on Swift’s new track, adding sass and bravado like only Jackson can.

Swift tweeted a link to Jackson’s version, which was recorded while the actor appeared on Capital FM in London, saying “Samuel L Jackson. YES”.

While everyone has their favourite version of Swift’s track, I think it’s safe to say there is enough room on the internet for both of these covers.
