It’s difficult me to become overly excited or passionate about anything when the whether is so drab. It makes me feels drab.
So I find at times like this it’s more beneficial to work with instead of against the grain.
Why rush back and forth between thunder and bad hair when you can be warm and safe watching movies that celebrate the pathetic fallacy of the day? I say this is a good time to eat ice cream (Ben and Jerry’s Chocolate Fudge is best) and cry your eyes out to movies that were made to do just that, destroy you.
Here’s my fail-safe tear jerk list:
Heartburn
I don’t blame you for not having seen this but it’s on top of the all time saddest EVER. 1986, Jack Nicholson and Meryl Streep, it’s a story featuring how amazing 80s fashion is and how sad it can be when love isn’t enough, even for Jack.
Beaches
If you haven’t seen this I really pity you, and obviously you haven’t experienced true cinematic tears…plus if you’re having trouble relating to your girlfriend you should really see this.
The Crow
OK the truth is we all know the comic is WAY better. If fact as much as we all owe it to Brandon Lee to watch it, the comic is so romantic, beautiful and hopelessly sad that you’ll have memory burn form the illustrations. Just read that.
The Colour Purple
This is actually my favorite novel but I still highly recommend watching the film. Directed by Stephen Spielberg and starring a very young Whoopi it also features Oprah in an amazing role. These unforgettable performances make me sad just thinking about them.
I hope you enjoy!
