Good and bad news coming out of Hollywood this morning. The good? A third Sex and the City film has been confirmed and will be shot back to back with Sex and The City 2, which is shooting right now. The bad news? The reason the two films are being shot together is because the studio heads are concerned that the four leading ladies, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis, will look too ‘old’ if a third film is shot in a few years. For a series that was supposed to promote women’s self-esteem, this is a pretty craptacular way to do it.

I guess we can’t be too surprised over the decision. Any notion of showing a realistic ensemble went out the door when the main character was able to afford a beautiful New York apartment and $500 shoes from writing one column per week. Still, it’s quite disappointing to hear that a show and film franchise that has done so much to promote women’s rights is taking a huge step back by telling women, ‘don’t get old.’ The Carrie Bradshaw I thought I knew wouldn’t stand for this.
