Before They Were Stars!
June 26th, 2014
One of the biggest Canadian Music Festivals is going down this weekend at Ontario Place as it hosts the third ever Digital Dreams.
Digital Dreams is a well-oiled machine and with the prospect of Canada Day looming in the background, everyone feels the need to make this weekend one of the best of the year. The list of performing artists is top-notch, and while some of the big names like Dillon Francis, Wolfgang Gartner, Diplo, and Skrillex didn’t make the lineup this year, there is still a wide selection of the world’s best DJs set to touch down in Toronto for the festival. Here are five artists I’m amped to see:
These ladies never disappoint when they take the stage. This genre of music isn’t only for the boys anymore and these two ladies are leading by example. They’re also a joy to watch perform on stage. Expect the crowd to be going apeshit when they hit the stage and when their music hits the speakers.
4. Danny Tenaglia
This festival isn’t just for young DJs anymore — 53-year-old Danny Tenaglia will be making an appearance and for many, this will be the first time seeing the Brooklyn producer live in the flesh as he doesn’t tend to make the trip to Canada often. Danny will be bringing some of the best tech house with him when he hits the stage, and if you’re a fan of this specific sound, his performance on the Echo Beach Stage will be a must-see. Here’s a preview of what you can expect.
3. Flux Pavillion
Josh Steele is one of the most respected producers in the game. The Circus Records OG always brings the crunchy bass when he hits the decks and you can expect there to be a ton of shouting and jumping, if you manage to get a nice spot when you see him at the Bacardi House of Boom. This will be the first time we get to hear him play tracks from his Birds Sing EP, which is a crazy collection of bass. He also just dropped his new remix of Kill The Noise and Skrillex’s Recess, which is getting a lot of attention and love. Make. Sure. You. Check. Him.
Make this a moment to pay homage and check out the hometown heroes. The Ottawa duo, fresh off their MMVA win, will be definitely planning something special when they play in their adopted hometown of Toronto. With arguably one of the best Canadian dance tracks of the past year with Run This, Thugli is sure to give us a performance to sink our teeth into. And trust me, these dudes go in!
Are you kidding me?! One of the greatest teams in the history of dance music will be the closing acts at the Dream Stage on Saturday night. What could be better? They revealed just yesterday that they’re currently working on their third album. Could this mean we will get to hear new stuff from the French legends? One can only “dream”. Even if they only play tracks from their first album, Cross, we will still be in for a treat.
Dmitri Vegas and Like Mike
Deep Dish Reunion (!!!)
(One of my favourite remixes ever!)
See you on the weekend!Tweet
