This isn’t 90210 glam or a nerd’s Hard Time. There are no vampires or diaries here either. What we’ve got is cold hard murder and the rich young lives of four sexy sophomores as they find a way to keep their lies buried in their seemingly happy little town Rosewood.

Alison the ring leader...who's now dead....

Five girls are having fun at a sleep over at their friend Alison DeLaurentis’ house. But, after sneaking in some alcohol, the girls pass out for a few hours only to wake up, and find Alison gone. No one has seen her since.

Flash forward one year.

Aria is toying with her teacher.....

Meet Aria Montgomery. She’s a shy pretty brunette willing to lie to a cute guy for a few passionate kisses. Turns out, that guy she lied to…..is her new English teacher Ezra Fitz. And that’s not the only surprise – Aria returns to Rosewood from a year in Europe to find out her best friends have all gone their separate ways.

Hanna Marin is Rosewood High’s new It Girl (now that Alison’s gone). She went from fat to PHAT and loving it….or is she? Together with her new sidekick, former nerd turned popular girl groupie Mona Vanderwaal, they enjoy some light shoplifting from time to time. But a pair of stolen designer sunglasses gets her into trouble with the cops. But her image obsessed mother won’t have any of that – already lying about her failed marriage; she prostitutes her perfectly put-together self to the cops to keep her daughter’s record clean.

Spencer Hastings is the overachiever – already taking college level courses and acing all her subjects, there’s only one thing that’s been out of her reach: her sister’s boyfriends. Behind her carefully pinned-up hair and power blazers lies a manipulative little girl – one who targets each boyfriend that her sister brings home with her smile, her wit, and her body. Alison was the only one to ever call her out on it – and Spencer was the only girl in the group to ever stand up to Alison.

Emily Fields – the athlete of the group, who like to tackle the girls on and off the sports arena. She befriends Maya St. Germain, the new girl to move to Rosewood, and into Alison’s old house. After showing her bad side and offering to “corrupt” Emily with smoking pot, it’s not long before the two starting sharing their lips with each other. But their friendship faces a shocker as Maya’s parent’s, renovating their newly purchased house, discover Alison’s dead body hidden in the Gazebo section of the house.

All four girls receive cryptic messages from “A” about their secret lives. But with the discovery of Alison’s body, they have to wonder if there’s someone else out there that knows their secrets, and is willing to expose them. Plus, the major reveal of the episode – there is one secret the four girls have over Alison – something referred to only as “the Janna thing”. And the girl in question, Janna, makes a surprise appearance at Alison’s funeral – blind and frail.

Who’s blackmailing who? Is Alison really dead? Who else knows their secrets? What happened to Janna?
