I know that everyone has probably heard enough about Sex and The City but I just have to add to it all, I’m sorry. I swear not to give anything away! This blog is about the experience of seeing the biggest chick flick of the century on opening night.
So Friday was the big day and me and my girls had been counting down and had a plan in place. We bought our tickets 2 weeks in advance. We thought we were super original - we dressed up for our reunion with Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte. We went for dinner complete with Cosmos - even my non-drinking friend Kim indulged! Sidebar - congrats to Kim for not dancing on the table or throwing up in the theatre! Anyway we’re feeling good and head to the theatre early. Here’s where the real drama starts.
Now if you’re a guy and reading this, understand this: nothing gets between women and their “show” or as my Jamaican nanny would say her “story”. We get to the theatre thinking we’re getting prime seats since we’re almost 40 minutes early. Not a chance. The theatre is packed and theatre management in their infinite wisdom decided to reserve seats, the the middle row even, aka THE BEST SEATS TO SEX AND THE CITY! Needless to say all hell breaks loose! A girl wearing an “I’m With Mr. Big” shirt is the leader of the herd of disgruntled women trying to find out how the seats could be reserved since it’s opening weekend and the show is totally SOLD OUT! Anyway the whole thing ends with various suits (male) from the theatre coming in and trying to tame the situation, not so much fellas. Security had to come in and get things under control calming the masses and escorting women to new seats. Can you imagine? I took pictures! It was like someone had let all the animals at the zoo free! Chaos! Jokes! For me and my friends who managed to find ten seats together, JACKPOT, the extra entertainment was great. Time for the movie!
There were cheers for the lights being dimmed, lights for the HBO logo, and then mass amounts of screaming for everyone’s favourite characters (hearts for Samantha). The movie was alright, it was nice to have everything tied up. I think what I liked the most, besides the hot mock firefighters out front was the giddy feeling of sitting with my girls and a hundred other random strangers for what felt like a massive girls night to laugh, cry and love!
Enjoy the flick ladies and relish in the experience!
