DEFINITION: (from The Urban Dictionary)
1. Fine-ass woman, or your girl.

FINE ASS WOMAN - “Sup shawty, how you doin?’”

ie. Girlfriend - “me an my shawty went to da sex shop yesterday and got some shit, yo.”

2. A term orginating in Atlanta that, in the beginning, referred to a short person or child, but the span of the word has grown to include any and all people, especially a girl that is attractive; it is mostly used as a term of endearment to others or just a way of addressing someone, like ‘Wassup Man.’ Instead of “Man”, shawty is used.
NOTE: Can be shortened to “shawt” or “shawtdawg”.
ie. “Waddup Shawty, when you coming over?”

3. Used mostly by individuals from the Atlanta area. Referring to a sexy female. Referring to a friend or associate.

1) Ay shawty! Let me holla at ya.
2) Was up shawty.
3) Mann shawty you pissin me off.

Over the past few years the popularity of the term “shorty”, “shortie” or more culturally correct “shawty” has increased ten fold, especially in popular songs on the radio. As per the definition provided above it usually refers to a person of a shorter stature or a girl. But when I first learned about the term some years ago it was my much younger cousin from ATLANTA referring to ME as a shorty which I found weird cuz I’m obviously much older and taller than my lil’ cuz…. nah mean. The term definitely originated in Atlanta and has spread around the world like wildfire!!!

When Kyle, one of our digital producers asked me about the meaning of the word I was shocked that he didnt know what the term meant. But now that the term has almost hit the cultural “tipping point” I decided it would be good to clarify the term by providing you with the following videos for your viewing pleasure. ENJOY!
