Sigur Ros: The Movie

I’m usually not a big fan of “concert films” - I’d always rather just be at the actual concert, so I find the experience rather frustrating. However, on Saturday night, I was lucky enough to score a ticket to a special screening of Sigur RósHeima (At home). The film follows Sigur Rós’ tour around their homeland of Iceland in the summer of 2006, where they did a bunch of free concerts in a bunch of small towns - all out of the desire to come home. (View the trailer here).

This movie was beautiful - from the music, the imagery, the cinematography - all the different elements complimented each other perfectly. When the film first began, I had a fear that it would be incredibly boring - shots of Iceland blended into the mellow Sigur Ros concert footage seems like it would get very old very fast, but who knew Iceland was so STUNNING. An hour and half later, I was relaxed, content, and full-on enjoying the audio/visual experience, sad to hear/see it come to an end.

Unfortunately this film isn’t playing at a theatre near you - but it is out on DVD. So do yourself a favour: get it, get yourself in front of a HDTV w/ surround sound, and just let yourself get sucked in.

It’s awesome.
