Singleton

OK, so after seeing that a new Pussycat Dolls single (“Wait A Minute”) is coming out imminently, I thought to myself, ANOTHER single? Wasn’t “I Don’t Need A Man” JUST released? How many frigging singles can one band milk from an album?

It made me think of the glory days, back in the 80s with the Slippery When Wet (7 singles)/Hysteria (also 7) rivalry for most singles released on album. Then Wendy and I got to thinking of some others:

Michael Jackson “Thriller” – 7
Kelly Clarkson “Breakaway” – 5
Janet Jackson “Rhythm Nation 1814″ – 8

Which other albums can you think of?

Oh, and here’s an interesting tidbit – the bestselling singles of all time. The Chipmunk Song? Candle In The Wind? REALLY? Most of these entries appear to be pre-1990 or so. Long live the single. Call me crazy, but I still buy them.
