It was reported a year ago that Toronto rapper Drake was being sued by a jeweler for apparently ripping off his owl image for knockoff replicas of a diamond-studded platinum necklace he paid said jeweler to make. Of course the owl in question is Drake’s famous OVO logo and Drake has now responded to the lawsuit pretty much calling the rip-off allegation BS.
TMZ says that, in the legal documents, Drake states the origin of his owl logo is actually taken from an ancient Egyptian hieroglyph—the symbol for the letter “M”. See the pic below:
Anyway, Drake is asking the judge to drop the case now, but before we close the case on this, let’s take a closer look at this OVO owl, shall we? Sure, Drake may not have stolen the image from a jeweler, but we think he could’ve been inspired by a number of other famous owls to create his well-recognized symbol.
Take a look at six other owls we think Drake might’ve been inspired by…
1. Owl from Winnie the Pooh
2. X the Owl from Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood
3. The O RLY owl
4. The Hootsuite owl
5. Hedwig from the Harry Potter franchise
6. Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole
