Sizzurp & ‘Lil Wayne Do Not Mix

‘Lil Wayne is addicted to cough syrup. Or at least he was. The rapper behind Tha Carter IV (which sold nearly 1M in one week!) recently admitted had a substance-abuse problem with the codeine-drink “sizzurp“.

Sizzurp is also known as Purple Drank or a prescription cough syrup (depending on your dealer). ‘Lil Wayne said he was inspired to try the substance after one of his idols, rapper Pimp C., died of a sizzurp overdose in 2007.

I don’t get it either.

He claims he was using the drink to combat fame AND illness, saying “I don’t do this to be cool. I did this because I was sick” and insisting he got the substance from a pharmacy.

He says he’s off it now, but he’s also been hinting he’ll be retiring from the music industry soon anyways, to focus more on being a parent.
