Skins Recap: 4.01 & 4.02

February 9th, 2010

Skins

Season 4 (or as they say in the UK, Series 4) of the extremely successful teen drama Skins premiered last week with one of the most eye-opening and shocking scenes that I have ever seen on the show.

If you haven’t watched it before, do it. NOW. You’ve got three previous seasons of the uber-racy-spomg-fantastical show to catch up on BBs.

If you have … well, let’s discuss the first two episodes, yes?

Alert! Spoilers after the jump!

Episode 1 of the new season takes us to a girl taking drugs outside of a sketchy building. She enters and we see that there is a rave going on. Along the way, we see our favourite characters from last season frolicking in drunken states, making out, and having screaming matches. The girl seems upset, pushing her way through the crowd and eventually making her way up the stairs to the second level of the club. She climbs the railings, and flings herself to the ground.

Wait, WHAT?

Slight issue: no one knows who the girl is, who gave her the drugs, and why she committed suicide – but we do know there’s a whee bit of a problem on Thomas’ hands, who runs club nights like this one to take care of his family. The Po-Po get involved, and suddenly the lines between what is right and wrong blur together.

Eep. The episode follows Thomas through the subsequent days after the death of the girl. Thomas realizes that the responsibility of taking care of his family and accepting the consequences of the means to do so are difficult, and begins to reach out to his community to clear the situation up for him. While girlfriend Pandora tries to fix Thomas’ dilemmas with sex, doughnuts, and bad television shows, Thomas hooks up with his pastor’s daughter, breaking the couple up.

The death raises suspicious behaviour from Cook, who claims to have given the girl the drugs. This leads to a brawl between him and Thomas, and we then discover Naomi gave the girl the drugs – but no one else knows!

GASP.

Wait, it gets better: Episode 1 ends with the return of Effy, who hasn’t been seen for months!

The second episode follows Emily, who is blissfully in love with Naomi. Naomi is harboring the secret of her involvement with the death of the girl, whose name is Sophia. The police continue their investigations, and when a little white lie escapes from Naomi, Emily decides to investigate on her own.

The result: we find out that Sophia was obsessed with Naomi – pictures, a shrine – and then we realize that Sophia and Naomi had met once before, as their picture is found in a university guide.

Obvi, Emily is a tad upset over this – but we’re not done yet!

Throughout the episode, BB Ems tries to prove to her family how strong her relationship with Naomi is, but is finding faults with her arguments. She attends a party with said girlfriend, only to end up on a jealousy train. Oh yeahz, I should mention that Effy&Freddie are back together, and Cook punches someone at the par-tay in reaction to Freffy’s PDA. Dramaaaaaahhhh.

The deal breaker: Sophia’s brother, Matt, opens Sophia’s special box, which contains a storybook of a one-day affair Sophia had with Naomi, and Ems tries to break up with her.

Things to note:
a)Sophia is creepy.
b)I heart the Series 4 boys. Especially JJ.
c)Sophia is creepy.
d)Cook is gonna get in trouble one day for his reactions
e) Team Freffy, Coffy, Nemli, or JJ?

Until next week friends!
