Smashing Pumpkins Box Set & Tour?

The Smashing Pumpkins website has announced that “plans are underway that will lead to the eventual release of a pre-Gish/Gish box set!”

It goes on to say that although no one knows for sure what will actually be included on this box set, it should be released at the same time with their Gish tour sometime in 2008.

Hmmm. No one knows for sure? To coincide with a tour? In 2008?! That doesn’t really leave them much time to figure it all out since the year is now half over. Get to it, boys! But then again, if they’re touring an album of theirs that’s 17 years old (Gish was released in 1991), then I guess their work is mostly already done.

And perhaps even more importantly: why Gish? I would argue that it wasn’t necessarily their best album.
