Great news: we get to see more of Andrew Garfield in that tight Spider-Man suit!

Columbia Pictures has confirmed that a sequel to this summer’s blockbuster The Amazing Spider-Man is now in the works and leading man Andrew Garfield will return to his role as Peter Parker. Director Marc Webb will also come back to direct the film. No official word yet on whether or not Garfield’s co-star and girlfriend Emma Stone will reprise her role as Gwen Stacy yet, but she is currently in talks.

Doug Berngrad, Columbia’s president, released the following statement today: “We could not be more confident in the direction we are taking this new Spider-Man storyline and we are tremendously excited to be ramping up production again with Marc at the helm and Andrew continuing on as Peter Parker. We can’t wait to share what we have in store for Peter and Spider-Man with audiences worldwide.”

The yet-to-be-titled sequel will go into production early next year and currently has a slated release date of May 2, 2014 – mark that down on your non-existent 2014 calendars now!
