The MTV Movie Awards went down in LA last night and host Russell Brand delivered an overall consistent show, full of big name winners and really uncomfortable scripts for presenters. The show hit high notes with Brand’s opening monologue, as well as performances from fun. and The Black Keys, who were joined onstage by Johnny Depp. Jennifer Lawrence took home a well deserved Best Actress popcorn statue for her role in The Hunger Games as Katniss Everdeen, while Emma Watson accepted Best Cast for the final Harry Potter film. Shailene Woodley finally scored a win in Breakthrough Role for her emotional take on a Hawaiian teenager in The Descendents after being snubbed all season by award shows.
Most of the night’s head-scratchers came from the dialogue written for presenters, with TED stars Mila Kunis and Mark Wahlberg starting off the night reiterating that they had not written the lines they were asked to recite. Twilight’s continuing dominance at awards show is also surprising, with films like Harry Potter, The Hunger Games and Bridesmaids losing out to the vampire flick for Movie Of The Year.
While the show was focused on the biggest films of the year, the red carpet was a collection of who’s who in TV, with stars of Pretty Little Liars, Teen Wolf, Awkward, Gossip Girl and more strutting their stuff. Check out a full list of winners and a red carpet gallery from the MTV Movie Awards below.
