Miley, Charlie and more!
December 18th, 2013
We know you must you be busy writing up your lists of best albums and songs of the year, but let’s not forget an essential part of the music world — remixes!
Take a look below and check out our top 10 remixes of the year. Of course there are a million remixes out there thanks to the internet, so please feel free to send us some of your faves that we might have missed, and let us know what you think makes a great remix.
Lady Gaga — Applause (Purity Ring remix)
Totally arguable, but we’re just going to say it: this remix of Lady Gaga’s comeback single Applause by Canadian duo Purity Ring might be better than the original. That’s right. Infusing their own signature sound, featuring clap tracks and distorted vocals, Purity Ring’s approach to this track is the perfect blend of both worlds.
Lorde — Royals (The Weeknd remix)
As if Lorde’s hit single Royals wasn’t big enough, R&B star The Weeknd added even more oomph to the track by adding a shimmering synth and Abel Tesfaye’s own sultry verse to the mix.
Portugal. The Man — Purple Yellow Red & Blue (Passion Pit remix)
Portugal. The Man’s original track for Purple Yellow Red & Blue was already a catchy enough synth-rock anthem, but Passion Pit’s spin on this takes is straight into a disco realm that definitely got us even more hooked.
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis — Can’t Hold Us (Major Lazer remix)
One of our fave tracks of last year, Major Lazer refreshed Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ Can’t Hold Us this year by turning this anthem into a true club banger.
Serena Ryder — Stompa (The Darcys remix)
Taking the floor-stompin’ track into a more spaced-out place filled with synth touches, Toronto band The Darcys definitely gave us a unique take on Serena Ryder’s big hit.
Drake — Girls Love Beyonce (SBTRKT remix)
Because every list this year needs a Drake submission, right? But also because this is a pretty great remix.
Jessie Ware — Wildest Moments (A$AP Rocky remix)
We knew that British songstress Jessie Ware and rapper A$AP Rocky had a little crush on each other, so we were more than delighted to see the two finally collaborate, sort of, on this remix of Ware’s single Wildest Moments.
Ciara — Body Party (Jacques Greene remix)
Body Party was one of our favourite songs of the year, and this Jacques Greene remix just doubled our play count of this hot track.
Chvrches — Lies (Tourist remix)
Stripping down the big synth hits of Chvrches’ Lies, this Tourist remix actually turns it down a notch and shows the song in a whole other, beautiful light.
Jay Z — Tom Ford (Rob Ford remix)
We just had to!
ICYMI: @Osheaga released a cryptic teaser last night and it made us lose a lot of necessary beauty sleep. See it now: http://t.co/186tFGhERa
@osheaga Our office for the last hour has just been a mess of people yelling out artist names from their desk. This thing is AMAZING.
Ooh la la! RT @osheaga Something big is coming your way tonight at 6PM!
