Summer 2007 – A Retrospective

So, on this sunny last Saturday of the summer, it’s time to take a look back on the events and general goings-on these past few months. The Toronto Star has a fun recap and review of Entertainment events around the city and world…but putting the icing on the cake was a hilarious list of 20 reasons I stayed indoors this summer from columnist Malene Arpe…which I quote the best of below because it’s that good:

1. So You Think You Can Dance!

2. I am powerless against the Blueberry Frappuccino at Starbucks.

3. The chance, however infinitesimal, that I may run into Pete Doherty if I leave the house.

5. Buskers scare the snot out of me.

10. Taking the TTC when people sweat a lot destroys the will to live.

11. Christian Bale, who has been tied to my bed for three weeks, needs to be fed at regular intervals.

12. Wouldn’t want to miss yet another call informing me I’ve won the chance to sit through a pyramid scheme seminar at a hotel out by the airport.

13. Summer kinda smells bad.

15. The ever-present danger of inadvertently attending a street festival.

16. Last time I left my apartment it had been turned into a condo by the time I got home.

19. Never a better time for sorting out my stamp collection into “not valuable,” “not valuable at all” and “pretty.”

Okay, I’ve bolded 15 because how true is that? You can’t leave the house during the summer in T.O. (and the general GTA) anymore without inadvertently stumbling across a street festival. I might even go as far as saying there are TOO many during the summer…it’s like ANY excuse is good enough. It’s like “Hey, Top Gun is on TV! Flight suit up for the 1st Annual Guy Movies from the 80′s Festival!” or “Bunny just painted her porch…let’s the throw the 1st Annual Painted Porch Appreciation Festival!” How about let’s not? I guess that’s part of what makes it summer here but I think I’ve definitely reached my limit. But enough about my pet peeves…

What’s made your summer great or not so great? Did you see JT in one of his amazing concerts or just hang out with your friends? Or did you head to a cottage or the beach and enjoy the relatively awesome weather?
