You can’t talk about summer hits without discussing two of our favourite comic book heroes, Spiderman and Batman. But let’s get down to the nitty gritty — who really won as the hit movie of the summer? Here as Summer Wrap, we break the films down to some of its key aspects and compare the two in a battle of the summer blockbusters!
ROUND 1: THE ACTORS
Spider-Man
In this new adaptation of the Spider-Man series, we’re introduced to a new leading man in the form of British actor Andrew Garfield. This is Garfield’s first time leading a big action flick, but we think he carried the film pretty well. In fact, we’d wager that he actually pulled off a better Spider-Man than Toby McGuire, who took on the role of Spidey in the last three films. Garfield was just the perfect amount of schoolboy adorableness and naive kid-turned-superhero that we’d kill to see a few more films featuring Garfield in a spandex suit!
The Dark Knight Rises
Some argue that Christian Bale might be one of the best Batmans to date, beating out previous actors Michael Keaton and George Clooney. Whether you approve of that crazy-deep voice of his or not, one thing can’t be denied and that’s the fact that Bale is one hell of an blockbuster star. His ability to dig into his character of Bruce Wayne/Batman both emotionally and physically, pulling off incredibly eye-opening fight sequences with his nemesis in The Dark Knight Rises, Bane, really resonates with audiences. The trilogy might be over for now, but we’re definitely left craving more Bale.

ROUND 2: COSTUMES
The Amazing Spider-Man
Well kudos to Peter Parker for making his own spandex costume, or as the cops in the film put it, “a unitard.” We must admit that the relatively simple costume looks like it would be easy to jump around in and, honestly, we don’t think anyone’s complaining about how tight it is on actor Andrew Garfield.
The Dark Knight Rises
Bruce Wayne relies on his right-hand man Fox for his Batman attire in The Dark Knight Rises. Although it looks iron-clad and badass as heck, we must admit that it looks a little stiff at times and come on, that thing must be a little heavy! All in all, though, it does do its job and anyone who sees a man walking down the street in that costume will be intimated.
WINNER OF THIS ROUND: THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN

ROUND 3: LEADING LADIES
The Amazing Spider-Man
Emma Stone is Gwen Stacy, Peter Parker’s high school sweetheart. As the daughter of a cop, there’s an almost Romeo and Juliet-esque twist to their love story where Stacy’s father makes it pretty clear that he doesn’t want the two together. Stone is perfect as Garfield’s girlfriend (we’re talking on-screen, not off!) and it’s evident that there’s plenty of chemistry oozing all over their scenes together.
The Dark Knight Rises
The Dark Knight Rises’ leading lady is less of a damsel in distress and more of a kickass warrior in her own right. Anne Hathaway blows audiences away as Catwoman, playing opposite Christian Bale’s Batman and not only is there chemistry between the two, but Catwoman’s storyline provides a bit of comic relief at times in the already super-heavy and dark film. Rumours are already swirling about a Catwoman spin-off – fingers crossed that they come true!
