Summer Wrap: Top 5 summer jams

July 31st, 2012

It’s not a summer unless you have the perfect summer soundtrack to go with your park hangouts and trips to the beach. This summer was full of summer jams — Summer Wrap counts down the top five songs of summer 2012! Blast these tunes now before you bid them farewell and say hello to fall!

5. Maroon 5 – Payphone
Leave it to Maroon 5 to always pull through with a summer hit. Last summer, this pop-rock band gave us Moves Like Jagger and this year, they gave us Payphone. Although it’s less upbeat than its previous summer jam, Payphone is yet another incredibly catchy melody. Instead of Christina Aguilera’s powerful pipes, Payphone features a slick verse by Wiz Khalifa. It ain’t summer till you hear Adam Levine’s sweet, sweet falsetto. Till next summer, boys!

4. Fun. – Some Nights
Speaking of falsettos… Fun. followed up their crazy successful hit, We Are Young, with this jam which we admittedly have had on repeat all summer. Although we’re sans Janelle Monae on this track, Fun. carry this song completely on their own and if you didn’t roll down the windows to your car, screaming the lyrics to this song then you haven’t completed your summer yet. Go! Do it now!

3. Flo Rida – Whistle
Just one look at this video and you automatically get summer vibes. Flo Rida’s Whistle is just as addictive as any of his other songs, but this was definitely the one we kept blasting all summer. Who doesn’t like a good song to whistle along to when it gets hot and sweaty out!

2. Nicki Minaj – Starships
Leave it to Super Bass singer/rapper Nicki Minaj to bring us another summer jam in the form of the super catchy Starships. Whether you prefer rapper Nicki or singer, pop star Nicki, it’s undeniable that the girl can pen a great hook and we’ve definitely been caught saying “higher than a motherf–ker!” more than once this summer.

1. Carly Rae Jepsen – Call Me Maybe
This song came out long before summer even started so it really just shows how great Call Me Maybe is that we continued to have this song on our playlists all summer long. This hit single climbed the charts and stayed put on the Billboard charts for a ridiculous number of weeks and it’s safe to say that Carly Rae Jepsen will enter fall being the new princess of pop! Watch out as she hits the road with friend and mentor, Justin Bieber, next month!
