Summer Wrap: Carly Rae Jepsen’s hit summer (Timeline)

August 20th, 2012

No one has had a more successful summer this year than our very own Canadian pop darling, Carly Rae Jepsen. With a hit single that broke records to performing at this year’s MMVAs, Jepsen has blown up both in Canada and around the world. Here’s a round-up of what Carly Rae Jepsen’s been up to in the past couple of months!

June 8th – Call Me Maybe, Jimmy Fallon?
The pop star teamed up with late night talk show host Jimmy Fallon and his house band The Roots to record a stripped-down version of Call Me Maybe which became quite the viral hit. The clip features Jepsen, Fallon and The Roots cozied up in a dressing room playing the triangle, xylophone and ?uestlove on the kazoo!

June 18th – Carly Rae hits the MMVAs!
Jepsen took home the prize for Most Streamed Video of the Year, but also delivered a memorable performance at the awards show in an adorable red dress with hearts (that was only one of many outfit changes!). She already won over our hearts, but that night at the MMVAs definitely solidified our summer-long love-fest with the singer.

July 9th – Welcome to 90210, Carly Rae!
It was announced that the Call Me Maybe star will be appearing on an upcoming episode of 90210. Although the episode won’t air until October 5, we found out that the singer will be on the show as a performer at a Las Vegas premiere. Producers admitted to falling in love with the hit single almost immediately when they first heard it and boasting that they used the song in their show’s finale last season “before it was a national sensation.”

July 16th – Call Me Maybe was a lie! Carly Rae’s never given out her number!
In an interview with AP, Jepsen revealed that she has actually never given out her number to a guy before. So, technically, she’s never told a guy to “call me maybe”…she lied! What a scandal! “I’ve done brave things for love before or for the possibility of the idea of love,” Jepsen says. “But I’ve never quite done that and I’m pretty sure now that I never can because that would be really, really awkward.”

July 22nd – Teen Choice Awards
Not only did Carly Rae take home two surfboards at the Teen Choice Awards that night – one for Breakout Star and another for Song of the Summer – but the singer also performed her single at the show, definitely proving that the teens love her!

July 24th – Good times with Owl City
Teaming up with Owl City, Carly Rae released a new song and video for their collab, Good Time. In the video, the two friends go away on a camping/party/adventure with a bunch of their buddies — the perfect summer getaway!

July 30th – Lady Gaga to Carly Rae: “I’M COMING FOR YOU”
After noticing that Jepsen’s hit single successfully passed Born This Way for longest reign by a woman signed to Interscope on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, Lady Gaga decided to Tweet a friendly warning to Carly Rae.

“@carlyraejepson (sic) I SEE you just swooped in and broke my BORN THIS WAY record of the most weeks at #1. DONT GET COMFORTABLE IM COMING FOR YOU.”

August 8th – Carly Rae wants to give you a Kiss on September 18th!
We’ve been waiting all summer for this – Carly Rae finally announces the release of her new album, Kiss! The album, which will be the first full-length since signing to Justin Bieber’s Schoolboy Records, will come out on September 18, just in time for her upcoming tour dates with Bieber at the end of September.

“These are lyric and song ideas that I have been collecting over the years,” Jepsen said, in a statement. “The record is pop. It’s inspired by Robyn, the Cars, Madonna, and believe it or not, James Taylor. I can’t wait to share it with everyone!”

August 8th – Queen of the Billboard charts!
Call Me Maybe has topped the Billboard Hot 100 charts for nine weeks now, passing Gotye’s Somebody That I Used to Know as the most chart-topping weeks of the year so far – way to go, Carly Rae! (Source)
