Summer=Muscles=Pumping Iron?

I can easily be called a movie snob. I am one. However I was recently persuaded to break down and watch a film that was, until now, completely not my style. I had no idea but as it turns out it actually marries several of my great loves: action heroes, documentaries and 70′s men’s fashion.

I know, it’s a dream come true, and it’s called Pumping Iron, the 1977 documentary that follows the training for the 1975 Mr. Olympic body building competition.

This stuff is serious, not to mention absolutely mind-blowing and HILARIOUS. I’m a huge fan of ‘movie’ Arnold so I was happy to see him young, happy and certainly loving life. The intensity and science behind ‘natural’ bodybuilding (before the orange 80s got a hold of it) is something to behold. If you haven’t seen it I promise you won’t be disappointed. Plus don’t miss Lou Ferigno, who played the 70s television version of The Incredible Hulk…wicked.

And just think, all of this just in time to feel badly about your body for summer! Enjoy!

P.S.: Favorite Arnold quote: “I was always dreaming about very powerful people, dictators and things like that. I was just always impressed by people who could be remembered for hundreds of years, or even, like Jesus, be for thousands of years remembered.”

And, Arnold comparing the “pump” of lifting to sex.
