The live music orgy known as the South By Southwest music festival held every year in Austin, Texas is back for its 22nd edition next month.
1500+ bands all vying for our attention. It’s the biggest music festival in the world and everybody who’s anybody in the indie music world shows up to party.
It’s a 3 part festival: interactive, film and of course, sweet, sweet music. The full schedule for the bands that will be showcased this year was released today.
And that’s just the official list.
Still to be announced, all these “unofficial” day parties organized around the festival. Hundreds of other bands will come to town just to have that SXSW experience and promote themselves like crazy.
Through the years, I’ve only heard good thing about this shindig. Always jealous of all the stories I’ve heard about the parties, the barbecues, the good Austinite people that welcome us strangers to their hip, happenin’ city.
Well, I finally pulled the trigger this year and will be having my first SXSW experience.
Here’s a list of the big names coming this year:
Buzz bands like Vampire Weekend, Tokyo Police Club, Simian Mobile Disco, The Cool Kids.
Old farts like R.E.M., The Slits, Moby and muthaf**kin’ Ice Cube y’all.
Also, has-been 90’s one hit wonder bands like Wheatus (seriously?), Fastball, Presidents of the United States of America and everybody’s favorite boy-girl band Hanson.
It’s a huge tapestry of bands that only SXSW can conjure up together for our delight. Soooo many bands, so little time to see them all.
Be on the lookout for the huge torrent file that SXSW releases every year to help festival goers to make up their mind as to what they should see. Even if you’re not going, it’s a great way to sample what’s new music-wise out there!

All Time Low are another disposable band that can potentially be eaten up by disposable listeners. It is cookie-cutter music.
Rah rah oo la la rama ma la la gaga!

ALL TIME LOW! They’ve got to be one of the biggest buzz bands on that list!
They are going to get HUGE this summer. As soon as the ‘Dear Maria’ music video is released it will calapult them into stardom, I guarantee.
