I’m gonna talk about the finale of So You Think You Can Dance right now, and there’s nothing you can do to stop me. It doesn’t REALLY matter that I still haven’t seen my taped copy of the Wednesday night show, and it doesn’t REALLY matter that I didn’t actually see the finale last night - only a fast-forwarded recap of all the best parts on my VCR (don’t make fun of my un-PVR-ness!) at 2am.
So, let’s talk. I won’t mention the winner for you weiners who still need to find out, but let’s just say I’m STOKED! Sooo happy that a tear almost choked down my cheek. It was mostly metaphorical, but metaphorical tears are just as important. (If you don’t know and want to know, go here).
What I love about the finale is that the choreographers pick their fave routines of the season and we get to see them all again. This is very pleasing to my eyes and sometimes, loins. (Did I just say that?) I’m ver’happeh with their choices - even if most of the dances didn’t have quite the same oomph as the first time performances. Hok & Jamie’s Hummingbird? Check. Sabra & Dominic’s Ne-Yo hip-hop routine? Mm hmm. Sara & Pasha’s west coast swing? Oh ya. Sabra & Neil’s hot business meeting? Eff yes. Lacey & Danny’s even hotter and “you are now carrying my child” samba? Mmmmm, yesss. Let’s just say that I’m FURIOUS to not be seeing these live when the dancers come to Toronto! (PS: Didn’t the dancers get to choose a routine last season?)
Downers of the show: the LAME “dance” with Cat Deeley and Nigel Lithgow (a sequence of their heads pasted on animated characters). Why couldn’t they have taken that time to devote a little more celebration to the eventual winner? They made the announcement and the credits rolled. Again, LAME!
But who cares, really. The winner is awesome, the routines top notch and as a whole, the finale was juuuussssst right.
