News for Tuesday: Barrel Full of Sunshine Edition

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

* Listen up, Americans! Kings of Leon think you have crappy taste in music!

* Like pulling teeth: Trent Reznor explains he’s getting Nine Inch Nails off the road so he doesn’t become Gene Simmons. You’ll also notice he’s coming to Oro, Ontario; see NIN while you can!

* I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! stars Sanjaya Malakar and Holly Montag are firmly denying being more than just friends. Even though Spencer Pratt insists he would “very happily hand the famed cup of superstar couple on planet Earth to Sanjaya and Holly in a second”. Spencer Pratt is such a tool.

* Calm down, young fella! Ex-Panic! At the Disco member Ryan Ross is speaking out about the breakup of the band. So now you knoooow.

* OH NOES! LeVar Burton, host of everyone’s favourite Reading Rainbow (I know I liked it), was in a car accident! Don’t worry guys, he’s gonna be okay!

* Broken Social Scene are gonna be in a movie! This Movie is Broken doesn’t follow the band directly, but seems like it has definite win potential anyway.

V-Fest BC Adds Bands!

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

In the spirit of… strangely unusual festival line ups… this year, the Virgin Festival has added a few more bands to the roster for the July 25th and 26th shows taking place in Dear Lake Park near Vancouver.

The Roots, and Broken Social Scene have been added to the bill for Saturday, and Sunday’s show is seeing the addition of Metric and Canadian Idol contestant Carly Rae Jepsen. They’ll be taking the stage alongside festival big-shots Our Lady Peace, Ben Harper & Relentless7, and Sonic Youth.

It’s a bit of an eclectic schedule, no doubt, but it’s loads better than V-Fest Montreal’s pick to get the New Kids on the Block to headline…

More details, and tickets if you think this fest is worth $135 for a weekend pass, are available at the V-Fest Website. Still no word on details about those Ontario and Alberta shows…

News for Tuesday: Deluxe Long Weekend Recap Edition

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

* Radiohead is back in the studio! No word if whatever they’re working on will be as mind-blowing (or randomly priced) as In Rainbows.

* Jack White and his other-other-bandmate Allison Mossheart (together they are The Dead Weather) came to fisticuffs in a New York City bar. And they haven’t even gone out on tour yet. Geez.

* Former O.C. star Rachel Bilson’s apartment got burgled while she was away spending time with her fiance, Darth Vader Hayden Christiansen. You’d think he would have felt it in the Force. Uh, I mean…

* The earthquake that rocked Los Angeles on Sunday night (4.7 on the Richter Scale) was apparently powerful enough to send some celebs running - to update their Twitter pages. Seriously?

* Kanye West is pleading “not guilty” to charges of “misdemeanor battery, grand theft and vandalism” for breaking a paparazzo’s camera back in September. Sounds worse than it looks, huh?

* Protest the Hero had their shows in Anchorage, Alaska, canceled. So they showed up in town with their beards to fight anyway. (Beard Fight?!)

* In a surprise twist (okay, maybe not), Broken Social Scene announce their reasons for canceling Olympic Island Fest: Race Cars.

* No Doubt kicked off their tour in Las Vegas this weekend. The 90’s: Fear them, they are coming for you (the band’s Canadian dates are in mid-June and -July)!

Broken Social Scene has Canceled Christmas.

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

I mean, they’ve canceled this year’s Olympic Island Concert! This is possibly worse than Christmas being canceled, and probably on-par with Halloween being postponed. I assure you, fairies (and magic unicorns and puppies) are dying all across the world right now, and no amount of clapping can bring them back.

Broken Social Scene let the world know via a post on their myspace page this afternoon. No word on why (WHY?!) the event was canned. BSS has been part of yearly Olympic Island concerts between 2004 and 2006. Previously confirmed participants for this year had been Explosions in the Sky, Thunderheist, and the Apostle of Hustle. Now we are all missing out.

If you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna go home and cry.
