Eminem will re-release Relapse next month. And no, this isn’t the Relapse 2 he promised us before the end of the year.

Titled The Refill (get it?), the album will include Relapse as well as seven brand new songs in a trend that has seen recent repackaged albums by Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga.

Eminem says that his goal was to get new music out there as soon as he could.

Swift, MJ lead American Music Awards noms

When the American Music Awards nominations were announced today, it was Taylor Swift who walked away with the most.

The budding country star and best-selling artist of 2008 led the pack with six, followed closely by the late Michael Jackson, who posthumously earned five nods.

The two stars will go head to head for the highly coveted Artist of the Year award, along with fellow nominees Lady Gaga, Kings of Leon and Eminem, who all earned three nominations each. Beyonce and T.I. were also triple nominees.

The good news for Taylor Swift is that Kanye West was shut out, meaning he likely won’t be there to interrupt another one of her acceptance speeches.

The American Music Awards will air on ABC at 8 pm ET on November 22nd.

Drake, Eminem, Kanye West and Lil’ Wayne have all joined forces in “Forever”. The song was written for the soundtrack to the upcoming LeBron James documentary More Than a Game. It’s especially poignant because poor Lil’ Wayne has been begging Eminem to do a song for like, decades. “Forever” is available for download on iTunes.

Mariah Carey doesn’t look imperfect (even as a guy?)

Mariah Carey’s cover art is out!
mariahcarey_mmeoirsjuly2009
The album is titled Memoirs of an imperfect Angel, but all three of these Mariah’s look pretty perfect to me! Speaking of three, why isn’t just one Mimi enough? She explained via her twitter that The reason I chose to use 3 images for the cover is because there are a lot of different emotions and stories revealed on this album.

You can see even more sides of Miss Carey in her new music video for Obsessed, playing her own stalker/Eminem! Check out gansta Mimi doing her thang, contrasting with her diva self. Stills and video after the jump!

Afternoon Relapse

051909-eminem

So a copy of the just-dropped Eminem album landed in my hands this morning, and the only thing I could do was listen to it immediately. I mean, it’s been five years since he last released an album (Encore) and the hype surrounding Relapse has been massive. Em’s doing press all over the place and there are several big stories surrounding it: not only did he finally record with Dr. Dre again (celebration!!), but he’s clean from the drug addiction that spiraled him into years of depression and absence from the public eye.

I didn’t have any real pre-conceptions of what the album would be. Obviously I’ve heard “Crack A Bottle” and “We Made You”, and was slightly underwhelmed, although happy to hear those ominous, punchy Dre beats. Questlove said on Twitter, “no front [I] thought I’d hate it. I friggin love it. … but i like it better than slim/em show/encore”. Otherwise I dove in with no bias and no expectations.

Brought to you by the letter Em

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

eminem1

It’s a big week for Eminem. Not only does his long-awaited Relapse album (his last album came out five years ago in 2004) finally hit the shelves today, just after his appearance on Family Guy on Sunday, but tonight he’s giving a free concert in his hometown of Detroit.

But you’d better already have your running shoes on. Billboard.com reports that people have been lining up for tickets for this gig since SUNDAY NIGHT, even going so far as camping out in front of selected ticket vendors.

Not to worry if you’re just finding out, though: Jimmy Kimmel Live is supposed to be showing parts of the concert as part of Em’s appearances on that show today and Friday. This is the one he’s flying in out-of-work auto workers for, remember? So you can live vicariously, assuming you’re awake that late (I’m not).

In the meanwhile, you can get your Em fix (probably a poor turn of phrase for the Relapse album) by checking out Devon’s adventures interviewing Slim Shady in Hooking Up with Eminem, or view the weird-ass video for 3 AM.
