Knowing you/Canada as a whole, you’ve most likely heard “Take Me Out” or “Do You Want To”, two of Franz Ferdinand’s biggest (and what some people would say - only) hits. Nod if the previous statement completely and utterly defines you as a human being in your entirety. Exactly. Nah! - what I’d really like to do is explain why the (incredibly, fantastically) talented band, Franz Ferdinand, is really all that.

VFest Toronto: Day 1

If you’re a VFest fan/follower/loyal participant/lover, then you know the story by now: Ontario’s festival was to be moved from Toronto Island to Burl’s Creek, where camping and hippie-like festivities were to take place. Unfortunately, due to low ticket sales and a general lack of enthusiasm, the organizer’s decided to move el festival-o back to Toronto - but this time at Molson Amphitheatre.

A crack team of music enthusiasts and part time assassins scoped out the scene only to discover that attendance was lacking (although it filled out for Nine Inch Nails) and it turns out that the vibe was way less drunken festival-y and way more tipsy do-gooder. Still, a pleasant and even awesome time was had by all.

Mercury Prize short list!

Once again ladies and gents it is time to place your bets on what album you liked best and see how it stacks up with those who make the big decisions. What I mean to say is the 2009 Mercury Prize short list nominees have been announced! Confused? Let me break it down.

- It’s all about the best albums that have come out over the past year by British or Irish artists
- The short list is made up of the “12 Albums Of the Year” and the winner/numero uno will be announced in September
- It is Europe’s number one arts prize, in terms of coverage and influence
- The music on the album is the only thing they take into account, so it has gotta be a mighty fine piece of music!
- It is kinda like the Polaris Music Prize
- Past winners included Franz Ferdinand, Arctic Monkeys, and Klaxons

So ready to see the top twelve albums?!

* Remember when The White Stripes played in every single province of Canada? Well they filmed it all! It will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival this September and be titled Under Great Northern Lights.

* The real Devil Wears Prada. A documentary about Anna Wintour is coming out! Intense! Fashion!

* Speaking of fashion, Kanye West has been interning at The Gap offices in New York. Interns unite!

* Franz Ferdinand push their way through in their new music video Can’t Stop Feeling. Watch and get a free download of the remix!

* Franz Ferdinand are also on this video with Metric, Passion Pit and everyone one else who was at Glastonbury talking about MJ’s death.

* Spike Jones directed a commercial for a Japanese bank? Featuring Brad Pitt? With a Sumo wrestler?

* Twilight tattoos. Like the permanent kind. Yeah.
