Susan Boyle Album Drops This Tuesday

Friday, November 20th, 2009

Eeeyayyyyy

What ever happened to William Hung? After butchering Ricky Martin’s “She Bangs” in the American Idol auditions, Hung became the most viral overnight celebrity in history. Okay, that’s not a fact, but it seemed like it at the time. So was anyone really surprised when Britain’s Got Talent answered back with Susan Boyle?

Earlier this year, 47-year old contestant Boyle stunned all those who sneered at her appearance during the audition. Her performance of “I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Miserables left everyone watching in a state of shock.

Stuff You Should Listen To!

Listen!

Just in case your iPod is looking a little dry these days, might I recommend some tunes for you to spice things up again?

The Sunshine Underground is one of England’s rising musical talents, after capturing the attention of audiences all over Britain in 2005 when the lads won a BBC Battle of the Bands competition. This four-piece band from Leeds released their first album Raise The Alarm (2006) which contained the incredibly catchy songs, “Borders” and “Commerical Breakdown”. The Sunshine Underground has been M.I.A for the last couple of years much to fans’ disapproval, however are in the midst of making a comeback tour. They have recently released their new EP Everything, Right Now, with their feature track “Coming to Save You”. The full second album is anticipated to be released in February 2010. It’s well worth the wait, so don’t get your knickers in a twist!

Fact: The band named themselves after The Chemical Brothers’ song “The Sunshine Underground”, from the album Surrender.

Sounds like: Franz Ferdinand and the Chemical Brothers’ love-child. TSU produces a variety of punk, dance-rock, funk, and indie sounds.

Canadian Talent + Half Decade = WIN!

Maffoofoo's Top 5

In case you haven’t already noticed, MuchMusic LOVES Canadian bands. I too love Canadian bands. In fact, I truly believe that Canadian bands trump all American, Scottish (-FF), Aussie, and even El Salvadorian bands. I mean, we seriously have so much talent, whether it is recognized worldwide or not.

The point that I’m really getting at is… if you take (in my opinion) the five best Canadian albums of the past 5 years and compare them to some popular albums from the places listed (especially El Salvador), it is clear that we pwn those n00bs. To give you a tasteling of what I mean, I invite you to search up, listen to, and love the best five Canadian albums of the past five years! >:]

Leighton Meester: Sing…er?

Blair/Leighton

Blair/Leighton

Leighton Meester, better known as Blair Waldorf, has previously stated that one of her true passions is music. Upon hearing this, critics, fans and the general public thought one thing only: Where can I buy ear plugs?

Most people were expecting a Heidi Montag situation. Cheesy music with half-assed lyrics. But when Cobra Starship came out with their song “Good Girls Go Bad”, everyone was wondering: who is that girl singing? That, my friends, is Miss Leighton Meester herself. She’s featured on one of the hottest songs of the year, and along with that, she has her own music coming out soon.

Let’s Not Forget About Franz, Mmkay.

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

Not unusual for Alex to levitate.

Knowing you/Canada as a whole, you’ve most likely heard “Take Me Out” or “Do You Want To”, two of Franz Ferdinand’s biggest (and what some people would say - only) hits. Nod if the previous statement completely and utterly defines you as a human being in your entirety. Exactly. Nah! - what I’d really like to do is explain why the (incredibly, fantastically) talented band, Franz Ferdinand, is really all that.

Pearl Jam Do The Evolution

pearljam-backspacer

September 20th marked the release of Pearl Jam’s ninth studio album ‘Backspacer’. From start to finish this album brings out some classic Pearl Jam and also shows a mature side to the alt grunge rockers. Clocking in at 37 minutes in length it is definitely their shortest album to date and there is no shortage of quality music on this album.

During their Toronto stop last month they played two new tracks, the single The Fixer and Got Some. Both tracks were received well by the crowd and listening to the tracks more, it’s no wonder why since they are both great tracks.

092209-daisy

If you are a Brand New fan it’s more than likely that you were (and still are) completely obsessed with The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me (TDAGARIM) released in 2006. Let’s be serious, the album was an instant classic, and solidified what would continue to be a committal love affair with any and every future release put out by the band.

It seems like ions ago that TDAGARIM came out (why does Brand New always like to keep us hanging like that?) and in a way it has been. Three years later, Brand New has delivered what has to be one of the year’s most anticipated albums, Daisy. So the answer to the long awaited question is here. Was it worth the wait?

Meaty track names and songs about the Devil - it can only mean that the lads of Billy Talent have returned triumphantly with a new album. Recorded in California and Georgia, III has already given us the gem that is “Rusted From The Rain”, but with that taste of coppery rock in your kisser, you only wanna hear MORE. And we’re singing it from the rooftops that you can listen to the whole thing right NOW (HAY - remember when Billy Talent sang from the rooftop, hmmmmm?!).

As I was saying, click here to listen to the full album now!!
