Few artists have made an impact so great on music that a style of sound is credited to their work, but that’s just what Nelly has done. After playing local hip hop clubs in and around his hometown of University City for years with his band, the St. Lunatics, the group got their big break with 2000′s Country Grammar. The Lunatics and Nelly did what few had done before them – made the world sit up and take notice of the St. Louis music scene. Creating a sing-song rapping style Nelly was offered a record deal as solo artist with Universal, which he accepted, as long as the Lunatics were signed with him. That was eleven years, six albums, two American Music Award, 3 Grammy’s and 1 CMT, yes, Country Music Award, ago.
