New Moon soundtrack contributor and Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke has a new band. Today he announced on Radiohead’s website that he’s formed a new touring group to support his 2006 solo album The Eraser.

Flea from the Red Hot Chilli Peppers is joining him on bass, which makes us think this is going to be quite the supergroup. Radiohead’s producer Nigel Godrich has also joined the line-up.

Almost two years ago, Radiohead welcomed a new experimental dawn with the introduction of their “pay-what-you-want” economic model when they released In Rainbows online and offered it to anyone who wanted listen – for free (with an option of leaving something in the post-modern tip jar).

After thousands of fans came knocking on Radiohead’s virtual door, and before the release of the physical album on Oct. 10, Radiohead was able to surpass the total income of their previous album Hail to the Thief.

So what about the fancy (and now poor) labels? They can still feel the aftershocks that quaked through the music world (suckers), as it remains flipped on its axis and looking for a way to cure the digital hangover.

But let’s get back to the point.

Radiohead give away free song

Monday, August 17th, 2009

Radiohead have been nice enough to give fans a brand new song for free.

While Thom Yorke recently announced they won’t likely release another album, today the band posted a new song called “These Are My Twisted Words” on their website as a free download.

In a blog entry, guitarist Jonny Greenwood wrote a message saying “So here’s a new song, called ‘These Are My Twisted Words.’ We’ve been recording for a while, and this was one of the first we finished. We’re pretty proud of it.”

You can get your free song over at radiohead.com.

* Can you believe that a whole bunch of European copies of the latest Dinosaur Jr. album have been recalled because they’re too LOUD? What kind of a cruel world is this?

* If this is a joke, it’s way too soon: Michael Jackson’s dad, Joe Jackson, wants MJ’s three kids, who are 7, 11, and 12 years old, to become the new Jackson 3. Seriously?

* In other news, or maybe not so much, Billy Corgan gets pretentious about keeping the Smashing Pumpkins name on his new music.

Something Grizzly and Disturbing

Two Weeks

If you were looking for a good psychological scare today, and who isn’t, why not check out this video that New York’s Grizzly Bear just released for their song “Two Weeks”. These guys opened up for Radiohead at a whole bunch of shows last year, and I’m thinking maybe something a little strange rubbed off on them. The song itself is actually pretty good, and I am enjoying listening to it.

But holy cripesicles, it is hard to concentrate on the song when these guys look like they are dead and bloated zombies with huge anime-style eyes coming to eat me in the suits they were buried in! Did you notice how that one guy blinks his eyes at different times? What IS that? And that smile on the blond dude is not natural.

Patrick Daughters, the director, also worked with Feist on her 1234 video, which was crazy because among other things, it was filmed all in one take. I am having a hard time imagining the dude that could go from that extreme to this one.

This aside, good work Grizzly Bear dudes! You have successfully provided me with nightmares for the rest of the week.

PS: WHY are they GLOWING?!

News for Tuesday: Deluxe Long Weekend Recap Edition

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

* Radiohead is back in the studio! No word if whatever they’re working on will be as mind-blowing (or randomly priced) as In Rainbows.

* Jack White and his other-other-bandmate Allison Mossheart (together they are The Dead Weather) came to fisticuffs in a New York City bar. And they haven’t even gone out on tour yet. Geez.

* Former O.C. star Rachel Bilson’s apartment got burgled while she was away spending time with her fiance, Darth Vader Hayden Christiansen. You’d think he would have felt it in the Force. Uh, I mean…

* The earthquake that rocked Los Angeles on Sunday night (4.7 on the Richter Scale) was apparently powerful enough to send some celebs running - to update their Twitter pages. Seriously?

* Kanye West is pleading “not guilty” to charges of “misdemeanor battery, grand theft and vandalism” for breaking a paparazzo’s camera back in September. Sounds worse than it looks, huh?

* Protest the Hero had their shows in Anchorage, Alaska, canceled. So they showed up in town with their beards to fight anyway. (Beard Fight?!)

* In a surprise twist (okay, maybe not), Broken Social Scene announce their reasons for canceling Olympic Island Fest: Race Cars.

* No Doubt kicked off their tour in Las Vegas this weekend. The 90’s: Fear them, they are coming for you (the band’s Canadian dates are in mid-June and -July)!
