This weekend I did what millions of people around the world also did: I listened to a ton of Michael Jackson.
I estimate that I’ve heard at least ONE Michael Jackson song every day of my life for the past 25 years. That means I’ve heard his songs at least 9,000 times (and let’s be honest: I probably listened to MJ 9,000 times between 1982 and 1985 alone). He’s everywhere. Whether I’m walking down the street listening to my iPod, or I’m in my car driving (Off The Wall is the one CD that NEVER leaves my car), MJ’s music is always easily accessible in my world.

GONE TOO SOON.
WOW. I can’t even believe I’m writing this.
There are certain moments in history, in pop culture, that everyone can look back on and definitively say, “I remember where I was when…”

I can’t believe he is gone just like that. Just the other day I was speaking to a friend on how I wanted to get an mj tattoo and 2 days later this tragedy happened. I can’t even explain how saddened and shocked I am. He was my all time fav. Continue Reading »

Words can’t describe how sad I am right now. Michael Jackson practically raised me, like millions and millions of other people all over the world. When my family came to Canada in the early 90’s, we were singing Michael Jackson’s songs before we even knew how to speak english. He was known in all corners of the earth, and I can speak for everybody when I say he’ll be greatly missed and never forgotten. My heart goes out to his whole family, especially his 3 kids.
God Bless

We play ‘Wanna be Startin Something’ and ‘PYT’ and all those joints when we go on the road. I think those might be the two most danceable songs ever.. I think everyone around my age got their sense of what pop music is period from Michael Jackson songs… and Mj is still the standard for live performance in pop and r&b… not to mention the videos… I think the music, the dancing, the videos - all of it just expanded our imaginations growing up. I’m still in the sinking phase of the death of MJ today, I literally saw the news on TV and then got a call to come into work and go live on air to talk about it, so there wasn’t much time for me to really figure out how I feel-even as I type it’s all kind of sinking in. The overwhelming thought that comes back to my brain is this idea of Michael Jackson being a pop culture icon because of the non music things over the years and how that has overshadowed what he has meant and means to the world of music. It has been so easy to make a joke about his very public problems and I hate that it takes his death to feel like everyone will just focus on his musical legacy again.
