Since The Stokes’ last album First Impressions of Earth each member of The Strokes has released a solo album or worked on another project except for lead singer Julian Casablancas.

Well that has all changed. There has been a lot of talk about when Julian would release something on his own and the time has finally come. His debut album entitled Phrazes for the Young is due out in stores on October 20 and has released the first single today.

Monday tid bits of newsy type things

Monday, August 10th, 2009

* Julian Casablancas of The Strokes did his “his first on-camera interview in 3 years”. He chats about his new solo album and The Strokes new album, and how he went to go see the movie Up. For the record everyone should go see Up if they have a heart (you will cry….I cried).

* Before The Matrix, Keanu Reeves used to get the scoop on bears! Ah-maze-ing!

* Chart put together a Best and Worst list of Lollapalooza , and Coachella has put together this neat timelapse!

* In other music festival news, check out these funky festival fashions yall! Back to school shopping time!

* As you’ve probably heard by now, John Hughes passed away. If you’ve never seen Sixteen Candles, Pretty In Pink, The Breakfast Club, or Ferris Bueller’s Day Off go and get to it this second. You can also click here for just a few of the great moments he created.

News for Wednesday: Sequels and Solos Edition

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

* It’s Harry Potter Day! I’m so excited for this movie! While we’re on the topic, did’ja ever think Emma Watson would team up to work with Marilyn Manson? No, seriously. Next step is for her to get a Death Eater mask.

* News about Miley Cyrus‘ next movie: she’s going to be playing a fairy. Ummmm… riiiiiiight….

* Announced movie sequels I’m struggling to care about: Bridget Jones III, where the title lady is preggers, and Scream IV, where, well, there will be screaming.

* And now, a list of dudes who think they can make it on their own: Julian Casablancas of the Strokes announces a solo album, as does Alec Ounsworth from Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, and in more tragic news, Mattie Safer leaves the Rapture. Going solo: all the cool kids are doing it!

* Dudes, the LAPD are now considering Michael Jackson’s death a homicide, ie: somebody KILLED him. Craziness! I wonder whodunnit…

It has been over three years since we’ve heard anything new from New York City rockers The Strokes and to tell you the truth I kind of miss them. The guys are currently working on their fourth full length album and I can’t wait to hear what it’ll sound like. But until then I think I may have stumbled upon a fix for my Strokes withdrawal. Meet The Danks.
