No This Is It for Christmas

Don’t expect to add the new This Is It to any stockings this Christmas.

Sony was hoping to have a DVD on store shelves in time for the lucrative Christmas shopping season. However, the studio has pushed back its release to early 2010 in order to keep the theatre chains happy.

Studios and theatres typically operate on a 90-day window between theatrical and DVD release. Sony was hoping to rush This Is It but theatre owners protested.

This Is It has been a cash cow so far, bringing in more than $20 million in its first day.

MJ making millions

Midnight screenings for This Is It earned an impressive $2.2 million dollars, setting up what was to be a big opening day for the film.

But it isn’t just the movie that is making money for Michael Jackson’s estate. According to Forbes, the late King of Pop has grossed $90 million since his death thanks to “royalties from album sales, radio play, rights to his name and likeness and royalties from his stake in the Sony/ATV music catalog.”

This Is It premieres

Will Smith, Jennifer Lopez, Katy Perry, Adam Lambert, Paris Hilton and Paula Abdul are just some of the stars who turned out for the premiere of This is It last night in Los Angeles.

The film features footage of Michael Jackson rehearsing what would have been his comeback concerts in London just before his death this summer.

After serving as a guest judge on the finale of So You Think You Can Dance Canada, Ortega told MuchNews that he decided not to direct the remake because he needed a break.

Michael Jackson’s father Joe is offering a VIP package for October 27th where fans get to…

1. Watch a screening of This Is It with him
2. Sit down for a private dinner with him
3. Take pictures with him and get his autograph
4. Stay for free in a hotel
5. Go to a party at Palms Casino Resort’s Moon nightclub

According to a source, after the film Joe will “thank the viewers and the fans for watching his son’s movie with him”

So… how much is Joe Jackson’s valuable time worth? $3,000 will buy you a night with the man himself. Fair price? Or is this just another scheme for Joe to profit off his son’s death?

MJ’s new song originally written in 1983

Michael Jackson’s new song “This Is It” hit the internet yesterday, but the late King of Pop can’t take all the credit for it. Canadian songwriter Paul Anka will receive half the track’s publishing rights after discovering that “This Is It” is a song he co-wrote with MJ in 1983.

The song is from the upcoming Michael Jackson doc based on footage from the comeback tour he’d working on, also called This Is It.

Some leaked footage from MJ’s upcoming film This is It shows a very thin MJ practising his hit “Human Nature.”

The movie features MJ’s rehearsal footage leading up to his O2 Arena concerts which were cancelled due to his untimely death in June.

Michael Jackson’s This is It will hit theatres on 28th for a limited two-week run.
