Big in Berlin

Heisenburgenschliezen!

Last week I had the good fortune of being in Berlin, Germany during two extraordinary events; the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall and the MTV Europe Awards. Berlin is magical, wild and by far the coolest city in Europe right now. It’s just bursting at the seams with hip, young, creative, artist types from all over the world. Hopefully you guys were following the MuchNews Twitter page for updates from the show. We caught up with the dashingly handsome duo Brody Jenner and Jesse Metcalfe before they presented on the big show. They wanted all the MuchMusic viewers to know how much they love them and what fun they had at the MMVAs.

Here are a few extra pics from our time in Berlin.

Lady Gaga, U2, Scarlett Johansson, Rufus Wainwright and Courtney Love performed Sunday night at Carnegie Hall to raise money to fight AIDS in Africa.

The event was a 50th birthday celebration for Bono’s long-time friend Gavin Friday and was part of the (Red) Nights concert series.

Of course, it was Lady Gaga’s revealing clothes or lack thereof that stole the show during her intimate performance of “Pokerface.”

Bono says he’s been having a great time in Toronto since U2 just wrapped up a 2-night gig in the city.

“I’m having the best time,” he said. “The film festival’s going off. There’s parties in the street. Then you get out to the Rogers Centre and there’s the biggest party of them all. Having a great time. Opened the roof, sun is shining, couldn’t be better. Great to be Irish here this week.”

U2 have one more Canadian date on their tour, Vancouver on October 28th.

U2’s Spaceship Lands At Rogers Centre

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

Last night was the first of 2 massive shows at the Rogers Centre in Toronto.
U2 Rogers Centre
U2’s last time at the venue was in 1997 for the gargantuan PopMart tour which had them somewhat ironically emerging from a disco lemon.

Last night’s massive ‘Claw’ stage was a band member on it’s own and U2 were manipulated it like seasoned rock star puppeteers under an open sky. Continue Reading »

U2: 700 Fans & I Was There

[Ed. note: Last week Mark found out that U2 would be playing a very small show in Boston and on a whim, he bought a plane ticket to see one of his favourite bands in a rare setting. Here’s his story!)

The day started off early with a red eye shuttle to the always friendly and relaxing Buffalo airport. Nobody wants to be that guy who’s asleep on a bench, but at 3am you stop caring.

Boston was experiencing the same cold and drizzle dog combo as Toronto ,which proved slightly frightening when landing. Hearing that Toronto was experiencing major delays made the experience worth it though, as we were checked into the amazing Fairmont Battery Wharf within 45 mins of landing.

A day of strolling around Boston admiring the wildlife followed. Taking a cue from Kat and Wendy’s local zoo trips I sped through the Boston aquarium and checked out penguins… who I can confirm… are the new otters.
