V-Fest BC Adds Bands!

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

In the spirit of… strangely unusual festival line ups… this year, the Virgin Festival has added a few more bands to the roster for the July 25th and 26th shows taking place in Dear Lake Park near Vancouver.

The Roots, and Broken Social Scene have been added to the bill for Saturday, and Sunday’s show is seeing the addition of Metric and Canadian Idol contestant Carly Rae Jepsen. They’ll be taking the stage alongside festival big-shots Our Lady Peace, Ben Harper & Relentless7, and Sonic Youth.

It’s a bit of an eclectic schedule, no doubt, but it’s loads better than V-Fest Montreal’s pick to get the New Kids on the Block to headline…

More details, and tickets if you think this fest is worth $135 for a weekend pass, are available at the V-Fest Website. Still no word on details about those Ontario and Alberta shows…

News for Wednesday: Comin’ Out Swingin’ Edition

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

* It sounded like a good idea at the time: The Stills are already working on a follow-up album to their acclaimed Oceans Will Rise… and possibly eating “hallucinogenic trail mix” while doing so. FTW.

* Nick Jonas has testified in front of the U.S Senate hearing on funding for Juvenille Diabetes Research. The hilarious part: a woman in the courtroom fainted (probably with excitement) during Jonas’ speech. Diabetes is not really the sort of thing that gets my heart pounding, guys.

* Jonathan Rhys Meyers, I mean Henry VIII punched an airport waiter and got arrested! Oh royalty, will you never learn?

* While there’s still no word about deets for Ontario and Alberta’s Virgin Festivals for this year, Baltimore (in Maryland, USA) is getting a FREE V-Fest with Franz Ferdinand and Weezer headlining. I hate Baltimore SO much.

* If you’re a little behind the times (like we are), you should know that Chris Brown is pleading guilty to assault charges. That’s positive, right?

* Good news about your time machine: you’re not gonna need it if you wanted to be around for the release of a Heart album. But um… they’re also releasing a kids book, which could make things a little weird.

* First the 90’s come back to haunt us, now the 80’s are doing it too: Frankie Goes to Hollywood (you knoooow) is gonna release a Best Of album. S.O.S!

News for Monday: Festival News, and the Future!

Monday, May 11th, 2009

* Virgin Festival organizers have announced which five Canadian provinces (up from last year’s two) will play host to V-Fest installments this year. Which is pretty vague. Perhaps they fail to realize how BIG our provinces are…

* More Festival News! Line ups for Music Waste’s festival in Vancouver, and a summary of the Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest line up in, uh, Ottawa, the Oxegen Festival line up in Ireland, the T in the Park festival line up in Scotland, and the Heineken Open’er Festival line up in Poland, of all places. I <3 the Summer Concert Season SO MUCH.

* 17 years later... SNL alum Jimmy Fallon finally gets his college diploma. That’s some victory lap, alright.

* The Future is getting kinda scary. Think about this: a “Guitar Hero” concert tour, or what about a World of Warcraft movie? Talk about taking a good idea too far.

* Oh Oasis, always getting into trouble: this time with a sex turkey (?!)

* Good news: the Snoopy host of Dogg After Dark has been cleared of assault charges for allegedly beating a man who climbed onstage at one of his 2005 concerts. Confusing news: what does anyone need a brass knuckle microphone for?
