I guess if you could sum up day 2, it would go down as the day that was too freezing to be August. And also again: where was the crowd? And also also: kind of an improvement over day 1. Wellll, here’s the thing. Move Grizzly Bear and Franz Ferdinand to day 2, and we’ve got ourselves a winner.

If you’re a VFest fan/follower/loyal participant/lover, then you know the story by now: Ontario’s festival was to be moved from Toronto Island to Burl’s Creek, where camping and hippie-like festivities were to take place. Unfortunately, due to low ticket sales and a general lack of enthusiasm, the organizer’s decided to move el festival-o back to Toronto - but this time at Molson Amphitheatre.
A crack team of music enthusiasts and part time assassins scoped out the scene only to discover that attendance was lacking (although it filled out for Nine Inch Nails) and it turns out that the vibe was way less drunken festival-y and way more tipsy do-gooder. Still, a pleasant and even awesome time was had by all.
Read our thoughts on some sets on day 1 AND check out our snazzy gallery featuring pics of Franz Ferdinand, Grizzly Bear, Sloan and the Pixies after the jump!

THIS JUST IN: VFest Ontario will no longer take place at Burl’s Creek, which would have required many festival-goers to camp out and find methods of travel (I had settled on hover boots). Instead, the two day concert will go down at Molson Amphitheatre, which makes me verrrrrry happy. It’s no Toronto Island, but as a lady with no car, no tent, a bad track record with stolen laptops/cameras and a passive attachment to the festival lineup, things just GOT A LOT BETTER!
Now, things are looking up: a couple days to chill with Grizzly Bear, N*E*R*D, Mew, Franz Ferdinand, Cold War Kids, Daniel Merriweather, Thunderheist, Nine Inch Nails, The Pixies? Pretty swell-ass way to end a month. Plus, your ticket will also gain you access to the CNE.
Gonna be interesting to see the switch - will seating apply? Hmmm…
UPDATE: Check out the seating information and FAQ! Looks like there will be assigned seating…

Weeks and weeks and weeks of waiting, and it turns out that the Nine Inch Nails leak is probably the highlight of Ontario’s V-Fest. A partial lineup was announced this morning and there are some gems for sure - Grizzly Bear, The Pixies, Franz Ferdinand, N.E.R.D. (for me!!!!) - otherwise we’re feeling kinda lukewarm about it so far. Can’t wait to see who gets added to the bill!
And remember kids, VFest isn’t a Toronto Island spectacular anymore… it’s in Barrie. Eeeeek. So if you’re psyched about the lineup so far, start planning your weekend! Who’s gonna be camping, huh?!
See the full lineup (so far) after the jump:

By this time last year we all knew that Foo Fighters and Oasis would be headlining VFest and just waiting on smaller acts to be announced. This year however, it’s totally different. The date and venue haven’t even been announced and that’s kind of a bummer because I’ve enjoyed the past four VFests.
There have been a bunch of rumors that this years VFest would not take place on the island and instead would be somewhere in Orillia. This rumor may have been unofficially confirmed yesterday when Toronto artist Thunderheist & New York based artist Trouble Andrew both updated their MySpace tour listings and added a Virgin Festival - Toronto date for August 30 with the venue being in Orillia, ON.

Schizophrenia!!!
That’s how I would describe this year’s Virgin Festival so far - at least when it comes to Montreal vs Halifax.
Hali’s lineup was just announced, and it’s a complete 180 from Montreal’s. Whereas Quebec will see acts like Black Eyed Peas, Akon and NKOTB, Nova Scotia will get:
The Tragically Hip
The Offspring
Metric
Dinosaur Jr
Hey Rosetta!
Plants and Animals
Arkells
The site says that more will be announced. If I was still living in NS, I’d probably buy the ticket just for Metric, Plants and Animals and Dinosaur Jr .. wait, they cost $75.50?!?!?! *Cough* Okaaaaaay then. Whooo nelly. Anyway, tix go on sale this Saturday and The Big Day goes down on Saturday, July 4. Nova Scotia roll call, haaaayyy?!

Oo, la la. Boy howdy, the Montreal Virgin Fest line-up is cooking to be something entirely different than any other VFest we’ve been to. Typically we see line-ups covering the wide spectrum of rock (indie rock! Brit rock! Cock rock!), but Montreal is gearing up to be very pop centric. As in, New Kids On The Block will headline on day 2. What the funk!!
Speaking of what used to be funky, Black Eyed Peas will end the night on day 1, truly making this a VFest experience unlike any other. And wait - when they say Live is gonna be there, do they mean like, “Lightning Crashes” Live?! S’gonna be interesting to see what other artists will be added to the bill!
The rest of the bill, after the jump.
