I listened to The Strokes ever since they came out on the scene with Is This It. I think I ran through a few pair of Converses listening to the likes of Reptilia, 12:51, Someday, and Soma. But this is their earlier stuff. Their first couple of albums were great… and then I sort of lost interest in the other albums. Nothing really sounded like their garage band youth vibe since then (maybe because they grew up?). But now we have Comedown Machine and it doesn’t sound like their Is This It days but it also isn’t forgettable either.
Take for example their track 80s Comedown Machine. It has the feel of a retro track but as soon as the beat picks up I’m instantly put into “Movie Mode”. Movie Mode is what I call that moment where I play a scene in my head from some made-up movie that a song I like would play in the background of. This track would play in a scene between a couple after running on a beach/forest/field together and realizing that all they have is now. They would probably also gaze into eachother’s eyes. And smirk.
My imagination has no bounds. But neither does this album.
Best Tracks: All The Time, 80′s Comedown Machine
