There’s just something about 2009 that makes me ponder. We’ve had endless amounts of surprises, w-t-f moments and unfortunately, tragedies — but it seems like they won’t stop. For one particular individual, that is. Maybe you know her, maybe you don’t, but I don’t suppose she’ll stray from the spotlight anytime soon. Those who are glued to the boob tube, would know the American Music Awards (a.k.a AMAs) were on last night. Between me and you – the music awards were nothing short of fabulous (there were quite a few tumbles, however, ouch) although, I do admit I was surprised at one decision.
Taylor Swift proudly received 5 awards last night (yes: five. cinq. cinco. oui oui), including Favorite Artist of the Year with the late Micheal Jackson as a nominee. I don’t know about you, dolls, but I nearly spit out my coke when they announced her name. Truth be told, I was rooting for Micheal … because well, he’s had magnificent songs that will forever be remembered. .. Don’t get me wrong, I adore the girl, as well as her music! Since the nominees and winners were based on fan-voting – can you imagine the number of Taylor Swift fans around the United States alone?
However, the Taylor Swift we all love and adore doesn’t let the win phase her but also acknowledges the Late Micheal Jackson. She wasn’t present but spoke live VIA satellite; “To even be mentioned in a category with Michael Jackson, who we will miss and love forever is an unimaginable honor.” At the bare age of 19, she is clearly making a name for country music. Her first headlining 60 tour date tickets around the globe sold out within minutes, including the venues in our very own Toronto!
Swift also took home: Adult Contemporary Artist, Favorite Country Album (Fearless), Favorite Female Pop/Rock Artist, and Favorite Country Female Artist. Certainly – this is no end of her! She just wrapped up filming Valentine’s Day side-by-side rumored boyfriend (taylor squared!), Taylor Lautner, which is due out in 2010.
I’ve never seen her dance, but correct me if I’m wrong.. she could easily be a triple threat!
Anyway, what do y’all think? Who should have won?
I’m a Micheal Jackson and Taylor Swift fan .. so, I can’t complain all that much.
