News began swirling around the possibility of Taylor Swift portraying folk singer Joni Mitchell this past spring, and now Variety is confirming that Swift will indeed take on the role as one of Canada’s most successful musicians. Swift will be acting in a film adaptation of the 2008 book Girls Like Us by Sheila Weller, which in addition to Mitchell, focuses on how Carole King and Carly Simon changed the landscape of American folk and pop music.
Weller herself is said to be happy about the casting decision to have Swift portray the eight-time Grammy winner and has also suggested the casting Michelle Williams as Carole King and Evan Rachel Wood as Carly Simon.
Swift’s acting resume is still quite limited, having played Taylor Lautner’s bubbly girlfriend in Valentine’s Day (not to be confused with playing Taylor Lautner’s bubbly girlfriend in real life at the time) and contributing her famous voice to 2012′s The Lorax. It’s unclear as to whether or not Taylor will be singing in the film, but we know that she is more than capable of that role.
