Taylor Swift drops heavy hints on who inspired State of Grace

October 16th, 2012

Continuing the promotion of her upcoming fourth studio album Red, Taylor Swift has released another new track from the album, this time with the rock ballad State of Grace.

Describing the song to Good Morning America as a “…song about when you first fall in love with someone, the possibilities and thinking about the different ways that it could go,” Taylor’s latest song shows a huge growth in the singer’s vocal range and strength. Added Taylor, “This (State of Grace) sounds like the feeling of falling in love in an epic way.” But who is Swift singing about falling in love with on the new song?

Known for writing about her real-life romances, Taylor drops some big hints on the song’s inspiration with the line “Just twin fire signs, four blue eyes”. Blue-eyed Swift was born on December 13, making her a Sagittarius, just like her blue-eyed ex, Jake Gyllenhaal. Swift’s new boyfriend, Conor Kennedy, also falls under a Fire sign, though his eye colour doesn’t match the lyrics. Ex-boyfriend John Mayer also doesn’t fit the lyric’s description. So there you have it – Jake Gyllenhaal. Nailed it.

State of Grace is now available on iTunes and Taylor Swift’s fourth studio album Red hits stores on October 22nd.

I’m walking fast through the traffic lights
Busy streets and busy lives
And all we know is touch and go
We are alone with our changing minds
We fall in love till it hurts or bleeds, or fades in time
And I never saw you coming
And I’ll never be the same
You come around and the armor falls
Pierce the room like a cannon ball
Now all we know, is don’t let go
We are alone just you and me
Up in your room and our slates are clean
Just twin fire signs, four blue eyes
So you were never a saint
And I love the shades of wrong
We learn to live with the pain
Mostly of broken hearts
But this love is raging and wild
And I never saw you coming
And I’ll never be the same again
This is a state of grace
This is a worth while fight
Love is a ruthless game
Unless you play it good and right
These are the hands of fate
You’re my Achilles heel
This is the golden age of something good
And right and real
And I never saw you coming
And I’ll never be the same
And I never saw you coming
And I’ll never be the same
This is a state of grace
This is the worth while fight
Love is a ruthless game
Unless you play it good and right
