Taylor Swift lets her country roots shine on new single Red

October 2nd, 2012

When Taylor Swift announced that she was going to be working with superstar pop producers Max Martin and Shellback on her upcoming fourth studio album, I was skeptical that Red would contain any of Taylor’s country roots. But to know Taylor Swift is to know an artist who stays true to her vision, and Swift’s latest single Red is the perfect example of just that.

Violins, banjos, and a guitar riff big enough to fill the arena’s Swift is sure to sell out on her next tour are combined with an exciting R’n B sounding repetition on the word “red” in the song’s chorus all together show that both Swift and her producers understand how to take everyone’s strengths and make them shine on an album. Swift’s country roots are still front and centre on the track, but Taylor is showing growth not only in her musical arraignments, but in her writing as well.

Swift’s new album Red will be available on October 22, while the single Red is now available on iTunes.

Loving him is like driving a new Maserati down a dead end street

Faster than the wind, passionate as sin, ending so suddenly
Loving him is like trying to change your mind once you’re already flying through the free fall
Like the colors in autumn, so bright, just before they lose it all

Losing him was blue, like I’ve never known
Missing him was dark grey, all alone
Forgetting him was like trying to know somebody you never met
But loving him was red
Loving him was red

Touching him was like realizing all you ever wanted was right there in ront of you
Memorizing him was as easy as knowing all the words to your old favorite song
Fighting with him was like trying to solve a crossword and realizing there’s no right answer
Regretting him was like wishing you’d never found out that love could be that strong

Losing him was blue, like I’ve never known
Missing him was dark grey, all alone
Forgetting him was like trying to know somebody you never met
But loving him was red
Loving him was red

Oh, red
Burning red

Remembering him comes in flashbacks, in echoes
Tell myself it’s time now, gotta let go
But moving on from him is impossible when I still see it all in my head
Burning red
Loving him was red

Oh, losing him was blue, like I’ve never known
Missing him was dark grey, all alone
Forgetting him was like trying to know somebody you never met
‘Cause loving him was red
Yeah, yeah red
Burning red

And that’s why he’s spinning round in my head
Comes back to me, burning red
Yeah, yeah
His love was like driving a new Maserati down a dead end street
