Finale Friday 7E/4P
February 2nd, 2011

Back in December the long list for the XM Satellite Verge Music Awards were announced, with the likes of Broken Social Scene, Arcade Fire, The New Pornographers and Tokyo Police Club topping the lists. Now the finalists have been announced and the results are surprising, if you consider those names to be ambassadors of Canadian music.
Arcade Fire did come away with one nomination, for the Artist of the Year category, but were surprisingly snubbed for Album of the Year. On the other hand, Stars, Tegan and Sara, Zeus and Michou all made the cut for both awards. The Zolas were also named as Album of the Year candidates.
The third category for Emerging Artist of the Year includes Elias, Hannah Georgas, Jay Malinowski, PS I Love You and The Rural Alberta Advantage.
The Artist of the Year and Album of the Year winners will each receive a prize of $25,000, while the Emerging Artist of the Year winner gets a respected $5,000 prize.
The winners on the night will be announced live to air on The Verge XM 87 from Toronto’s Mod Club at 6pm EST. Performing live during the broadcast will be Gord Downie and the Country of Miracles, Tokyo Police Club and The Acorn.
