Canadian Music Week wrapped up seven days of shows in Toronto with the annual Indie Awards held at the Fairmount Royal York Hotel. Singer Janelle Monae and Canadian rapper Shad entertained the crowd while international acts like The Black Keys, Taylor Swift, Mumford and Sons and Sleigh Bells picked up awards, including favourite international group of the year to Mumford and Sons, favourite international solo aritst to Ms. Swift and favourite breakthrough group to Much favourites, Sleigh Bells. The Black Keys, the two man band from Akron, Ohio picked up two awards for favourite international album of the year for Brothers and favourite international single for their track, Tighten Up.
Marianas Trench took home the awards for favourite single of the year for their song Celebrity Status and favourite pop group of the year. Montreal’s Arcade Fire continued their 2011 award show streak and accepted the award for favourite album of the year for their Grammy winning The Suburbs. Metric were awarded with the title of favourite live group of the year while Polaris winners Karkwa won favourite Francophone group of the year.
