The City – Recap (Ep 20)

November 13th, 2009

At the beginning of the episode, Kelly calls a staff meeting, which begins with Kelly scolding Roxy, implying that if she keeps her attitude up, she will be fired. Also throwing in some mentions of the recession, Kelly is trying to think positive for the world, but all Roxy did was whisper to ask someone for a pen. Come on, Kel! Lighten up!

Continuing in the meeting, Kelly begins to discuss a business trip to Miami for Fashion Week to work on a swimsuit show. Kelly suggests bringing Whitney along for the ride, in which Roxy decides to start making little faces at Kelly, hoping to get chosen to go as well. In response to that, Kelly says, “And then we could bring her partner in crime that she’s training,” in which case, Roxy puts a big smile on her face, knowing that yet again, she got what she wants.

Cut to after the intro, Joe calls Olivia into his office to discuss Miami Fashion Week, mentioning to her that he considers the week’s previous task a “learning experience” and telling her that the rest are to be taken seriously, and no slacking will be allowed. He continues to tell her that she’ll be going to Miami with Erin, and that they’ll be hosting a big party. He wants Olivia to shadow Erin and learn from her first trip working for Elle magazine.

Moments later, we see Whitney and Roxy enterting the ‘W’ Hotel in Miami where they can’t help but think of the idea of a party less than 5 seconds after entering their suite. Roxy continues to take advantage of the situation by ordering $200 room service, after Kelly specifcally told them not to do anything expensive, and expect her to pay for it.

Then we see Erin and Olivia in the airport, and shortly after, boarding their airplane. As the man over the P.A. system says, “Today’s flight to Miami will be 3 hours and 10 minutes,” yes it seems – just from the few minutes of the flight we saw – the flight lasted much longer, due to awkward and pretentious conversation between Erin and Olivia.

The next scene involves bikinis, beaches, and a whole lot of critcism from the lovely Kelly Cutrone. The casting for the Mara Hoffman swimsuit show seemed to be going pretty well at first, until Kelly suggested they “place bets” on the girls’ walks. After laughing at the girls, critizing them, and even saying she feels like she needs some “dollar bills” in her hands, Kelly is completely oblivious to what is going on a few feet away from her. Whitney and Roxy are trying to think of a way to do the work quicker so they can go out and “party Miami style.”

After mustering up some devious plan, the girls go out to a club in Miami where they meet up with a boy named Nick. Nick and Roxy flirt, have drinks and discuss Whitney’s school habits, and very shortly after, run out of the club while Whitney is in the bathroom. Shocked and somewhat appalled, Whitney slowly exits the club by herself, wondering where her best friends went, and why they left without her.

The next day, in preperation for the fashion show, Kelly notices there is a body missing; the body of a young socialite named Roxy Olin. While scrambling around the runway, Whitney runs into Olivia and whisks her out back to show her the accesories and to also meet Mara herself, and Olivia decides to turn her introduction into an interview question Mara on her “inspiration behind the line.”

Moments later, Whitney and Roxy enter a quite heated conversation about the festivities that went on the night before involving boys, lost cell phones, and ditching best friends in nightclubs. But not too far into the conversation, Kelly interrupts and tells them, “This isn’t group therapy… If you have a problem, take it outside.”

At the Elle after party, Olivia speaks with designer Red Carter for a very brief moment, in which case Erin had to ask what material she had to bring back to the New York office, and if it was going to be enough. Olivia assured her that everything she had was good enough and was going to be just right for the magazine. But Erin still had her doubts.

Back in New York, Olivia, Erin and Joe had a sit down meeting to discuss the events of Miami Fashion Week where Olivia showed little to no interest in her job whatsoever, and in the end, Joe blamed Erin for not “showing Olivia the ropes”, when Olivia should be the one either getting yelled at, or just getting fired.

Over at the People’s Revolution offices, Kelly tells Whitney and Roxy that their fighting backstage was a complete embarrassment. After Kelly began to walk away, Roxy whispers to Whitney, “She didn’t say one nice thing.” That was not what Kelly wanted to hear. Upon hearing that, Kelly turned back around, continued to yell at them for their inappropriate behaviour, and told them both to either give it up, or find new jobs.

Then once they think the fighting is over, Kelly asks the girls, “Were you guys in room 615!?” When the girls replied yes, Kelly continued to tell them that there is a $200 dollar charge on the room, the charge will be coming off of their pay cheques and the next time they want food, to “go to Taco Bell,” in which Roxy says to herself, “Someone’s PMSing!”
