The Cool Kids @ The Wrong Bar

January 28th, 2008

The Cool Kids show on Saturday night was pretty awesome. It started out a little troubling when midnight hit and there was no sign of anything happening, then about 15 minutes later some guy gets on stage and announces the Kids had border issues but they’re on the way (in hip-hop that usually means the show is over). So finally at 1:15 they show up and get right into it. Their music reminds me of early nineties hip-hop, or better yet the kind of music you would make if all you ever listened to was early nineties hip-hop.

Chuck even had the sickest throwback Mets Game hat, with the back clip and tags still on, almost like it actually was the early nineties. They did all the hits, Gold And A Pager, 88 and Black Mags … twice (?!). I guess when you’re new in music you don’t have a big catalogue to draw from, but I’m pretty sure the crowd was happy to hear the same song twice anyway.

At the end they really got into it, and both Mikey and Chuck tried crowd surfing (which didn’t go over that well – I think I saw my friend Manny drop the ball on that one). But the show was hype and the stage got mauled immediately after it finished, so all in all I’d say it was a success!
