Miley, Charlie and more!
February 26th, 2014
Whether you saw this coming or not, it was super sad to hear that Katy Perry and John Mayer have recently broken up. We truly thought they were perfect for each other and the signs were all there! The cute dates, the lovey dovey comments they say about each other, the music video…oh, crap.
Music videos featuring lovers: a beautiful display of love or a doomed curse cast over your relationship? Even though we’ve seen our fair share of couples who have starred in music videos together (Beyonce and Jay Z, Pink and Corey Hart, Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon), we have a theory that these things do more harm than good.
Katy Perry and John Mayer starred in the Who You Love music video together, following the footsteps of other couples who called it quits after putting out videos together. Here are a bunch of examples that support this hypothesis. Check out ex-couples who have appeared in music videos together and tell us in the poll below: do you think couples are cursed when they star in music videos together?
Should couples appear in music videos together?
John Mayer + Katy Perry — Who You Love
Guess those who ride bulls together don’t stay together…
Jennifer Lopez + Ben Affleck — Jenny From the Block
Probably the most blatant display of a celeb relationship, Jennifer Lopez’s music video for Jenny From the Block shows off her ex-boo Ben Affleck as he dines with her and kisses her ass…literally.
Drake + Rihanna — Take Care
So according to rumour mills, Drake and ex Rihanna may or may not be back together, but till we get confirmation, we’re gonna put the pair’s video for Take Care on this list. Close second: their collaboration on What’s My Name.
Usher + Chilli — You Got It Bad
Okay, this may not be the most positive or romantic video but Usher’s ex-girlfriend, TLC’s Chilli, appears in it regardless.
Jessica Simpson + Nick Lachey — Sweetest Sin
Famously appearing in a reality show together, Jessica Simpson and ex-husband Nick Lachey also shared on-screen time in her steamy music video for Sweetest Sin.
Robin Thicke + Paula Patton — Lost Without U
Before Robin Thicke was too busy chasing half-naked girls around in Blurred Lines, he was featuring his soon-to-be ex-wife Paula Patton in his music videos like this one for Lost Without U.
Miley Cyrus + Liam Hemsworth — When I Look At You
When I Look At You was a song off of the film The Last Song, which is incidentally where Miley met Liam.
Demi Lovato + Joe Jonas — Make A Wave
The Camp Rock couple brought their collabs to another movie, Oceans, teaming up for the song Make A Wave in which the two duet and star in the beachy video.
