How much can a song writer make? If that song was Rihanna and Jay-Z’s 2007 hit “Umbrella“, then the song writer made 15 million. Wow. Wouldn’t we love to be under that umbrella.
Song writer and rapper The Dream AKA Terius Nash was the writer behind the summer hit of 2007, and recently revealed the major payday in an interview. He’s also the writer behind hits “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)” for Beyonce and “Baby” for Justin Bieber.
Another revelation he let loose? He almost didn’t write the chart topper for the Biebs. In a strange twist of fate, Nash only agreed to write the song after former Island Def Jam EVP Chris Hicks paid for Nash’s hotel room in the city where his meeting with Bieber’s peeps was held.
He revealed he hasn’t even made his way through half of the “Umbrella” payday yet, and that he gave a percentage of the “Baby” payday to his now ex-wife Christina Milian.
