Last night, to kick of the Toronto International Film Festival, I guest listed myself to get into one of this weekend’s hottest ticket events - VICE magazine & Rimmel hosted a super duper exclusive party at Berkeley Church, an old, classic building in Toronto’s east end. Oh, and they flew Yeah Yeah Yeahs in to perform. Wow.
The venue holds about 400 people but according to the Facebook, 5000 people were ‘definitely attending’, but they VICE was only going to let in a few hundred. And had requested to be on the guest list. There was NO WAY we were going to miss the event, so we went to line up at 6pm for the 8pm doors. When we got there there were already about 50 VICE Do’s & Don’ts candidates in line ahead of us. And as the HOURS passed, hundreds more lined up behind us. We finally got in FOUR hours later at 10pm, with Yeah Yeah Yeahs scheduled to go on at 11.
Once we got past security VICE honchos took our pics on the red carpet, handed us gift bags stocked with makeup from Rimmel and ushered us in where we enjoyed free EVERYTHING. The venue was pretty intimate and when Karen O. & crew finally came on stage 15 minutes late, people started to lose their sh*t. You can see how close to the stage we were in the pic above, that my friend Chris took.
I really don’t know where Karen O. gets her energy, but her personality and stage presence have become somewhat of a benchmark for all band frontwomen - she’s feisty, unpredictable and bonkers energetic. She was bouncing around the stage like crazy and adding and removing accessories (hats, masks, scarves, leotards).
YYY tore through the hits - Pin, Gold Lion, Y Control, Date With The Night, Honeybear, but no Maps! W.T.F. I guess it just wasn’t that kinda night - the crowd was so frenzied there’s no way you could have asked them to calm down long enough to enjoy Maps. The band came out for a quick encore & and an hour and a half the party was over and people started filing out. Quite an enjoyable night overall!

No need for exclamation points. They played Maps, and I have the setlist to prove it. It was an acoustic version (perhaps why you didn’t notice?).
What! I’m a douche.
Can you post the setlist? Or take a pic of it and post it? I’m curious! I must have been outside in the smoke pit or something!
where can i find any of the red carpet photos? my friend and i got so good ones!
When I asked the VICE people they told me pics would be up on their official site - http://www.viceland.com

That show was amazing. With all the dancing and jumping it felt as though the old rickety floor of the venue was about to give way.
