Oklahoma isn’t exactly a region that experiences professional sports triumph often. So when the Oklahoma City Thunder started rolling in the 2012 NBA Playoffs, fan and local hero himself Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips decided to rework his band’s 1999 anthem “Race For The Prize” as an anthem for the team, which you can now stream.
Below, courtesy of Stereogum, you can read the rewritten lyrics:
Oklahoma City was once in a decline
Home of the workin’ man
But he was losing
But heard off in the distance
Came a roar out of the sky
Thunder came thunderin’
So determined
Theirs is to win
We win with them
They’ll keep fighting
For Oklahoma
