The Grammys: A Song For Mama

February 11th, 2008

So, who all watched the Grammys last night?

Each year there is always ONE performance that has everyone talking the next day; a performance SO good that you know when you’re watching it, you’re seeing something truly special.

A few years ago Mary J. literally brought my jaw to the floor with an emotion-drenched rendition of No More Drama. And last year she turned in another memorable performance with U2. She knocks it out of the park every time, and few have ever rocked a Grammy stage better than Mary.

BUT – did y’all see Kanye West‘s performance last night?

Four words – PERFORMANCE. OF. THE. NIGHT.

Hands down.

Think whatever you want of Kanye West – he’s certainly egomaniacal, so much so at times that it’s almost cartoonish. But 2007 will go down as the year that he truly turned a corner, both professionally and personally. And that performance was proof.

For once, Kanye’s ego was stripped down and we got a true glimpse of the man behind the headlines. His tribute to his beloved mother Donda was nothing short of awe-inspiring. It gave me goosebumps – and your heart must be made of stone if it didn’t bring a tear or two to your eye. I was absolutely speechless.

It will no doubt go down as one of the best Grammy performances of ALL time. And no doubt, mama is looking down on her boy – and she’s very proud.
